WOOLF, Virginia. The Captain's Death Bed and Other Essays

£100.00

WOOLF, Virginia. The Captain's Death Bed and Other Essays. London: The Hogarth Press. 1950. 8vo. First edition, first printing. Publisher’s plum cloth lettered in gilt to the spine which is slightly oxidised, in the dust jacket designed by the author’s sister, Vanessa Bell. A very good copy, the backstrip slightly faded, the gilt oxidised but legible, the binding tight and slightly rolled. Ink ownership inscription to the front endpaper with date of 1957 to lower, else very clean indeed. With clippings loosely inserted at title page. The dust jacket unclipped with 10s 6d net price struck through in pencil, slightly nicked around spine head and bumped to foot and corners, but a bright and pleasing copy.

The author’s third posthumously published essay collection, collated by her husband, Leonard. This volume follows on from The Death of the Moth and The Moment, the three volumes cumulatively forming ‘a representative cross-section of all the different kinds of essay which Virginia Woolf wrote’.
