WILLIAMS, Raymond. Border Country

£75.00
sold out

WILLIAMS, Raymond. Border Country. London: Chatto and Windus. 1960. 8vo. First edition. Publisher's red cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in the dust jacket designed by G. J. Galsworthy. A very good copy, the cloth clean and a trifle bumped at spine head, the binding tight and square. The textblock edges faintly spotted. Internally, neat ink ownership inscription to the front endpaper with a two-inch closed tear here. Some faint spotting in places but often fine. The dust jacket price-clipped, with some rubbing to the tips and corners, some edges, but in all a striking example.

Williams' somewhat autobiographical debut novel, a study in many ways about character and place; a lecturer in London returns to the Black Mountains of Wales to see his ill father, a former signalman.
