TODD, Ruthven. The Planet in My Hand (signed)

£75.00

TODD, Ruthven. The Planet in My Hand. London: Grey Walls Press. 1946. 8vo. First trade edition. Publisher’s beige cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in the dust jacket. This copy signed and inscribed by Todd to the poet Stephen Spender, in New York, 1947. An about fine copy, the cloth clean and bright, the backstrip a trifle pushed at tips. Binding tight, the contents mostly fine with some light offsetting to endpapers. The dust jacket unclipped (6s 0d) and just slightly bumped at extremities.

A sharp example of the poet’s fifth collection of poems, printed privately two years prior but with noticeably different selections. Todd had moved to New York earlier in the year, while Spender began travelling there for lectures, the pair likely meeting up together, alongside old pals, W. H. Auden, Christopher Isherwood, and others.
