WELSFORD, Enid. The Fool

£150.00

WELSFORD, Enid. The Fool. London: Faber & Faber. 1935. First edition. An uncommon volume on the social history of the fool with special emphasis on its depiction in literature, from the mythical buffoon to Punch and beyond. With excellent illustrations and photographic plates throughout, including one of Chaplin in The Gold Rush. A very good copy without the dust jacket. The binding a touch softened and the cloth with a few stains, a mark to the spine panel. A handful of occasional spots within else usually fine. With two bookplates at the front pastedown, one Edwin A. Dawes (previously mentioned) and another of R&J Holdsworth.
