The Bloomsburyite’s second novel after her tragicomic Cheerful Weather for the Wedding (1932), this novel about the dream-like immediacy of lust. It was republished under the title ‘An Integrated Man’, a nod to the opening sequence, though I much prefer this title. Confusingly for cataloguers and no doubt frustratingly for herself, the jacket artist is not Barbara Hepworth, the modernist sculptor, but a talented namesake.
