REMARQUE, Erich Maria. All Quiet on the Western Front. Trans. from the German by A. W. When. London: Putnam. 1930. Small 8vo. Reprint. Publisher’s grey cloth lettered in black to the spine and upper board, in the striking pictorial dust jacket that goes uncredited, with a new wrapper design following the plain green wrapper of the first. A very good copy, the cloth clean and bright, very gently bumped at spine tips, the binding tight and square. Some mild spots to the textblock edges, with contemporary ink signature to front endpaper and occasional spots to prelims, else clean. The dust jacket unclipped (3s 6d net) and quite sharp, small abrasion to the spine panel, gently rubbed and bumped to the corners and spine tips with some small adhesive tape repairs to verso, but an appealing example.

A canonical novel of the First World War, often cited as the greatest war novel of all time. Its immediate success saw twenty-one reprints in the same year before the cheap edition in April 1930, using this moving new jacket design. Uncommon.
