NOON, James. Ultramarine (signed)
NOON, James. Ultramarine. London: The Fortune Press. 1939. 8vo. First edition. Publisher’s blue cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in the dust jacket. Inscribed by the author to the front endpaper, ‘with the author’s compliments’ and dated November 1939. A very good copy, the cloth a touch mottled, the spine panel slightly faded, the corners gently bumped with some mild spots to the textblock edges. The contents generally clean and bright throughout. The dust jacket unclipped (7s 6d net) with a few small stains to the front panel and spine, most noticeable to front panel top edge. A handful of small nicks and bumps at corners and tips, but a pleasing example overall, uncommon in the dust jacket and especially so inscribed.
A witty and amusing novel describing the ‘follies of the jeunesse dorée of West End London’ during the thirties and up to the outbreak of war. It follows the wealthy young socialites of Mayfair and Chelsea, and appears to be the author’s only novel. A scarce volume by the ever-alluring Fortune Press.
