NEWSOM, John. Rogue's Yarn
NEWSOM, John. Rogue's Yarn. London: Faber & Faber. 1953. 8vo. First edition. Publisher’s green cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in the striking dust jacket designed by Philip Hepworth, who also provides numerous line illustrations. A very good copy, the cloth clean, a little discoloured at the tips and corners, the binding tight and square though the boards just a trifle bowed. The contents clean, some light spots to the textblock edges and less so to prelims. The dust jacket unclipped (9s 6d net), complete and just gently bumped along the spine tips and corners. A handsome copy.
An uncommon juvenile novel set in the Norfolk Broads. Of special interest here is the dust jacket, designed by the acclaimed British architect, Philip Hepworth. This is one of his few forays into the medium and is in this cataloguer’s opinion his best.
