MCCARTHY, Cormac. Blood Meridian

£750.00

MCCARTHY, Cormac. Blood Meridian, or The Evening Redness in the West. London: Picador. 1989. 8vo. First British edition. Publisher’s red cloth lettered in white to the spine, in the dust jacket designed by George Sharp. A near fine copy. The cloth clean and bright, gently bumped to corners and tips. The binding tight and with a very gentle roll, the paper stock slightly toned, a near-universal issue with the volume. But the contents else fine, with an academic’s notes on paper loosely inserted. The dust jacket unclipped (£11.95) and complete, bright and sharp, just gently crimped at extremities.

A sharp example of what is usually considered McCarthy’s magnum opus—third in this cataloguer’s estimations, gulp. This first British edition was published four years after the Random House American first and is at least equally as uncommon in commerce, though was undoubtedly published in a smaller print run than the 4000 US trade editions.
