MARTIN, George. R. R. A Game of Thrones

£225.00

MARTIN, George. R. R. A Game of Thrones, being Book One of A Song of Ice and Fire. London: Harper Voyager. 2011. 8vo. A paperback reprint specially rebound by Charta Bookbinders of Venice. Illustrated endpapers, bound in red leather to imitate the ‘House with the Red Door’ so-called, riveted and with gilt tooling. An about fine example, just gently sagging at headband due to the nature of the binding. The contents fine with bookbinder’s stamp to rear endpaper.

A charming example of the first book in the author’s acclaimed epic. Bound by Dario Ustino at Charta Bookbinders in Venice, this example is one of around 300 or so specially bound volumes from the firm, each in essence what they describe an ‘art binding’ and in figure something between a designer binding and a unique piece of art. The design is a nod to the House of the Red Door, the childhood home of Daenerys Targaryen in the Free City of Braavos.
