MAINE, Charles Eric. B.E.A.S.T.

£40.00

MAINE, Charles Eric [pseud. for David McIlwain]. B.E.A.S.T., or Biological Evolutionary Animal Simulation Test. London: Hodder and Stoughton. 1966. 8vo. First edition. Publisher’s burgundy cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in the dust jacket designed by ‘Studio’ Stead. A good copy, the cloth externally clean, the binding tight and square. Some light waterstaining to the endpapers with some of the cloth colour running. The contents, however fine, with a handful of light spots to top edge. The dust jacket unclipped (16s net) with similar stains to the verso, the front and rear panel a little mottled. Gently bumped to most edges, but uncommon.

A sci-fi thriller dealing with genetic warfare. A supercomputer and a group of MI5-like scientists aim to create a super-advanced animal codenamed ‘BEAST’ which, as one might anticipate, is mistakenly let loose.
