LLEWELLYN, Alun. The Soul of Cézar Azan. London: Arthur Barker. 1938. 8vo. First edition, first printing. Publisher’s brown cloth lettered in black to the spine, in the dust jacket signed ‘HMD’. This copy signed and inscribed by the author to front endpaper. A near fine copy. The cloth clean and bright, the binding tight and square. Some mild spots to textblock edges, a little patchy at endpapers but largely fine throughout. The dust jacket unclipped (7/6 net), with several small nicks and closed tears, slightly rubbed but a vibrant copy.

The story of the unwanted son of a poor woman, a hanger-on to a travelling troupe of bullfighters in Provence. The author’s third novel. Llewellyn worked in several genres, publishing poetry, short stories, and novels, as well as non-fiction usually relating to his native Wales. He is probably best remembered his science fiction novel The Strange Invaders (1934).
