Externally, the book remains clean but for a noticeable stain to the backstrip, which is slightly faded. The binding remains firm, the half-title and title-page are present but loose, these and some other pages naturally a little dog-eared. Lacking the original wrappers, though with replacement blue endpapers which are plain, The contents remain clean, but are consistently toned throughout from the paper quality used in this printing, as usual (Slocum & Cahoon, A17). All said, an attractive volume overall.
A pleasing copy of Joyce’s masterpiece and a mainstay of twentieth century literature. This fourth printing was the first to alter the now iconic Greek flag blue wrappers, instead adopting white or cream wrappers with blue lettering, though are unfortunately lost here. Slocum & Cahoon, A17.
