HEMINGWAY, Ernest. A Moveable Feast

£150.00

HEMINGWAY, Ernest. A Moveable Feast. London: Jonathan Cape. 1964. 8vo. First British edition, first printing. Publisher’s variant red cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in the excellent wraparound dust jacket designed by Hans Tisdall. A near fine copy. The boards clean and bright, the binding tight and square, the contents clean and fine throughout despite a few faint spots to bottom- and top-edge, without inscriptions or stamps. The dust jacket price-clipped, some very mild bumps around spine head, small nick to spine, but a bright and pleasing copy overall.

Hem’s posthumously published Paris memoir, with the unmistakable wraparound jacket by the Cape stalwart. Many of his contemporaries appear, often fleetingly, such was Papa’s life as a young and struggling writer in Paris—the Fitzgeralds, Gertrude Stein, Sylvia Beach, Ezra Pound, James Joyce, and many others. Though star-studded, it is in many ways a homage to Paris more than anything else.
