HEMINGWAY, Ernest. A Moveable Feast
HEMINGWAY, Ernest. A Moveable Feast. London: Jonathan Cape. 1964. 8vo. First British edition, first printing. Publisher’s brown cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in the wraparound dust jacket designed by Hans Tisdall. A near fine copy, the cloth clean and bright, the binding tight and square, the topstain unfaded, the contents clean and fine throughout without stamps, inscriptions, or foxing. The dust jacket unclipped (18s net), gently rubbed at the spine head and tail, corners, with two small closed tears and a couple of minor marks only.
A sharp example of Papa’s excellent 20s memoir, recounting his wine-fuelled time in the Paris cafes between 1921 and 1926. Hem wrote The Sun Also Rises in this period, but his many meetings with his great luminaries is the soul of the work—Gertrude Stein, James Joyce, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Wyndham Lewis, Ford Madox Ford (and many, many others) make usually fascinating appearances.
