HARRIS, Wilson. The Far Journey of Oudin

£75.00

HARRIS, Wilson. The Far Journey of Oudin. London: Faber and Faber. 1961. 8vo. First edition. Publisher’s patterned green cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in the striking dust jacket designed by Peter Snow. A near fine copy, the cloth clean and bright, the binding tight and square, the contents clean and fine throughout. The dust jacket unclipped (15s net), with a couple of small chips to the rear panel top corners and around the spine head. Other corners a trifle bumped.

The Guyanese author’s second published novel, second in the ‘Guyana Quartet’, which helped cement him as a leading figure on postcolonial fiction of the postwar world. The narrative here manages a strange mix of symbolism and realism which can be tricky to follow at times. His legacy continues to rise. The illustrator, Peter Snow, produced only a very small handful of book covers, including Samuel Beckett’s All that Falls; his paintings are exceptional.
