GODWIN, George. Discovery

£40.00

GODWIN, George. Discovery. The Story of the Finding of the World. London: Heath Cranton. 1933. 8vo. First edition. Publisher’s red cloth ruled and lettered in black to the front panel, in the striking dust jacket by I. Tomaschek, the design repeated to front endpaper. A near fine copy, the cloth very clean and bright, the binding tight and square, the textblock edges gently spotted, the contents clean and fine but for a couple of minor spots. The dust jacket priced 2s 6d net to spine, complete, gently rubbed at all corners and tips, some darkening, but a striking example. Uncommon.

‘A book for boys of all ages’, covering epistemology in the human race in bitesize, from the belief in Flat Earth to the then contemporary understanding of an infinite space. The dust jacket designer, ‘Tomaschek’, has not been uncovered, but the design is fabulous.
