FOWLES, John. The Magus. London: Jonathan Cape. 1966. 8vo. First edition, first printing. Publisher’s quarter purple cloth over patterned grey boards, in the excellent wraparound dust jacket designed by Tom Adams. An exceptionally clean and bright copy, the binding tight and square, the topstain vivid, the contents clean and bright throughout. The dust jacket unclipped (30s net), fine without issue, very minor mark to front flap, from production, we presume.

A very fine example of one of Fowles’ most enigmatic novels that perhaps doesn’t quite reach the heights of his The Collector (1963) according to this cataloguer, yet is often other readers’ favourite, and remains a stalwart on lists of best fiction of the twentieth century. Uncommon in such superior condition.
