FORSTER, Peter. The Disinherited (signed)

£75.00

FORSTER, Peter. The Disinherited. London: Eyre & Spottiswoode. 1971. 8vo. First edition. Publisher’s blue cloth lettered in silver gilt to spine, in the dust jacket designed by Craig Dodd. This copy inscribed by the author to the title page. An excellent example, the cloth just a trifle bumped at extremities, the binding tight and very slightly rolled. The contents clean and bright. The dust jacket unclipped (£2.25 net) and complete, some mild toning towards extremities, a couple of small nicks to the spine tips, but otherwise bright.

The final instalment in the author’s uncommon trilogy depicting two middle-class Englishmen through the twentieth century—the first volume depicting their mild-mannered childhood (Play the Ball), the second their wartime experiences (Play the Man), and this telling of their respective careers working with the BBC and as a publisher. On a brief skim, it doesn’t read as stuffy as made out here, and each volume of the trilogy oddly and surprisingly scarce.
