CARTER, Angela. The Bloody Chamber. London: Gollancz. 1979. 8vo. Second impression. Publisher’s black cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in the dust jacket designed by Malcolm Ashman. An excellent association copy inscribed by Carter to the author Clive Sinclair, whom she met at the University of East Anglia—Carter was writer-in-residence, Sinclair a visiting lecturer. The pair kept in touch throughout their careers. The book about fine, the cloth clean and bright, the binding tight and square, the contents fine throughout. The dust jacket unclipped, complete and about fine but for some trivial bumps to spine tips.

Perhaps the author’s best known work, a collection of macabre stories, less retellings of traditional fairytales, more ‘extractions’ from the latent content of folk tales and stories. Uncommon signed, even in the second impression.
