Publisher’s red cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in the Ley Kenyon dust jacket. A good copy. The boards very slightly mottled and marked, the corners just a trifle bumped. The binding tight and gently rolled, top edge dust-marked, the contents mostly clean, with ink ownership inscription of Scottish author Bruce Marshall to front endpaper dated only a few weeks after publication. Endpapers, prelims and terminals slightly spotted, else clean. The dust jacket unclipped (15s net) with several small chips, nicks, creases and small tears.
A nice copy of the author’s magnum opus and winner of the National Book Award for Fiction. It is interwar Chicago and endlessly hopeful Augie seems never able to achieve… something, on account of not having the goal to achieve it… and so moralistic, comic, in the Great American Novel style, lauded as such.
