BALLARD, J. G. The Terminal Beach

£1,000.00

BALLARD, J. G. The Terminal Beach. Short Stories. London: Gollancz. 1964. 8vo. First edition, first printing. Publisher’s red cloth lettered in gilt to the spine, in the Gollancz yellow dust jacket. A very good example, the cloth clean and bright, the gilt just a trifle oxidised but remaining mostly bright. The binding tight and square, the textblock with a few light spots and faint stains, the contents fine but for a small handful of faint marks to the front endpaper and half-title at corners, without stamps, inscriptions, or foxing. The dust jacket price-clipped, slightly toned at the spine panel, with a handful of minor spots to the front panel. Corners and tips very slightly rubbed, but a bright and very pleasing example overall.

One of Ballard’s most quintessential short story collections, and one of his most collectible volumes. Its publication earned him wider critical and commercial acclaim—Michael Moorcock called him ‘the greatest imaginative writer of his day’ (NW 144, 1964). Uncommon.
